The Governing Body
School governors are volunteers who help to run the school. Most schools work with a group of school governors - together they’re called the 'governing body'. They are involved in decisions about all aspects of managing the school – such as running buildings and budgets, supporting staff and setting standards of school discipline.
Governors also help to make big decisions about the school’s long-term goals. They support headteachers, but also ask questions and make sure the headteacher is taking the school in the right direction.
The Department for Education (DfE) sets out the roles and responsibilities of the Governing Body and the purpose of governance is to:
".. provide confident, strategic leadership and to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance." (DFE - Governance handbook 2017)
It outlines the three core functions of the governing board as:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spend
Governor Awards
Each term we hold an awards ceremony where children are presented awards for the showing the following attributes; Enthusiasm, Independence, Resilience, Creativity and Kindness. There is also a Governor Award given for holding these attributes and having a good attitude to learning.
